German post jointly with France post issued a stamp to celebrate 50 years of Elysee Treaty. The groundbreaking agreement was signed on 22 January 1963 by French President Charles de Gaulle and German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer signed the Elysee Palace in Paris.
In the “Joint Declaration on the Franco-German cooperation” reconciliation between the two peoples, the close solidarity in matters of security and the economic and cultural development, and not least the important role of youth in consolidating the friendship between the two countries is emphasized.
50 years ago – and only 18 years after the end of World War II – so that two European countries agreed a partnership that has developed over the years on many levels. The founding of the German-French Youth Office (FGYO) goes back to the Elysee Treaty.
One of the main consequences are the semi-annual consultations at the level of Heads of State and Government, which have developed in 50 years a valuable routine in everyday political business. Moreover, foreign and defense ministers meet regularly and senior officials of the two foreign ministries. The program of the Elysee Treaty of 1963 includes “Education and Youth” focused in “Foreign Affairs” and “defense”.
In 50 years a strong and much-tier bond of partnership is created, dismantled the earlier suspicion that people closer together, and has facilitated the arrangements at the level of political decision-making in both countries strongly.
In addition to the commitment of the political actors reflects mainly the contribution of the two civil societies in the fields of education, culture and youth exchange of the outstanding importance of the Elysee Treaty, the 2013 celebrates its 50th anniversary.
